Barbara Caldwell has worked at MFS since 1993, serving five years as the Chester Reagan Chair for Quaker Studies and six years as the Upper School Director before assuming her current position in 2004. In her current position, she oversees curriculum and classroom instruction in all three school divisions, coordinates faculty hiring, ensures that goals of the MFS Strategic Plan are Before coming to MFS, Caldwell worked as a General Manager for the Duraplast Corporation from 1990 to 1993, and as the Executive Secretary for Religious Education at the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting from 1982 to 1990. The Philadelphia Yearly Meeting is a regional body of the Society of Friends which includes more than 100 meetings in four states. Caldwell has also worked as an Upper School teacher and administrator at Poughkeepsie Day School in NY, Woodstock Country School in VT, and Friends Select School in Philadelphia. Caldwell has an M.A. from Columbia University and a B.A. from Mount Holyoke College. She also has a Pennsylvania certificate in elementary education. Caldwell is married to Samuel Caldwell and is the mother of three children and the stepmother of four more. She is a member of the Religious Society of Friends. Outside of school she is active in her Friends meeting in Media, PA, and enjoys reading, walking, gardening and spending time with her family. She and Sam spend as much time as possible at their cottage in the Finger Lakes in New York State.
