Director of Annual Giving

Moorestown Friends School (MFS) is a Quaker, independent, coed day school serving 725 students in grades preschool through 12.  The school is located in historic Moorestown, approximately 20 minutes from Philadelphia.  We are seeking a Director of Annual Giving effective immediately.  In 2007-08, the MFS Annual Fund surpassed $615,000.  In June 2008, Moorestown Friends School was recognized by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education with a Circle of Excellence Overall Performance Award for Educational Fundraising.

Summary: Reporting to the Director of Development and with guidance from the Assistant Director of Development, the Director of Annual Giving will coordinate and implement all aspects of the school’s Annual Giving program.   This is a full-time, 12-month administrative appointment, renewable annually.  Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience; a competitive benefits package is available.

Job Functions & Responsibilities: As a member of an effective fund-raising team, the Director of Annual Giving will play a key role in managing the school’s Annual Giving program.  Responsibilities include the following:

  • Develop and implement the annual solicitation plan and master Annual Fund campaign calendar.
  • Work closely with constituent groups, including: Alumni, Parents of Alumni, Parents, Grandparents, Trustees, Faculty, Staff, Organizations and Friends of the school.
  • Write targeted solicitation letters for different school constituencies.
  • Manage and support alumni fund-raising class representatives and assist with class Reunion Gift efforts.
  • Work with Development staff to plan and design Annual Fund direct mail materials, on-line giving web pages, e-mail solicitations, the Annual Report, and Annual Giving related event invitations.
  • Organize and implement Annual Fund phonathons.  Recruit, train and support Annual Fund volunteers, including Leadership Solicitors, Special Gift Solicitors, and Parent, Alumni and Student Phonathon Volunteers.
  • Identify, research, evaluate, visit and solicit prospects for the Annual Fund.  Prepare reports on all personal solicitations.
  • Attend and report at regularly scheduled Development Committee meetings and prepare monthly Annual Fund summary reports.
  • Attend and support all Alumni Weekend activities, as well as regional alumni events.
  • Prepare prospect research reports prior to visits by the Head of School, Development Staff or Board members.
  • Work with Development Office staff to maintain Raiser’s Edge database, to accurately report and acknowledge gifts, and to compile the Annual Report.
  • Be an active and knowledgable member of the school, its programs and the MFS community.

Qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree required.  This position requires superior communication, writing, planning, and organization skills.  Some successful fundraising experience, preferably in an independent school, is desired.  Candidates must be able to identify, recruit, train and motivate volunteers.  Familiarity with Microsoft Office products required.  Since this is an administrative position, there is no “comp” time or overtime.

Candidates should have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively and persuasively with the many constituencies associated with the school.  Candidates should be extroverted, loyal, detail-oriented, focused on accuracy and cool in pressure situations.  The successful candidate will be a self-starter and a strong finisher, who exercises sound judgment, tact and discretion at all times.  Candidates must also work cooperatively in a team setting.

An understanding of the mission, values, organization and traditions of an independent school or private college is desired.  Experience with Raiser’s Edge development software a plus.
