Meet the Director

Chris Kimberly
Upper School Director


Christopher Kimberly was appointed MFS Upper School Director in 2009. Previously he served as the Dean of Academics at the Emma Willard School, a girls’ boarding school in Troy, NY, where he was responsible for overseeing the school curriculum and faculty. He began at Emma Willard as a science teacher in 1997 and was named chair of the science department in 2001. He served in this capacity until 2005, when he was named Dean of Academics. As a member of the faculty, he taught both core and advanced placement classes in biology, chemistry, and physics, as well as electives in environmental science and bioethics. He was also the varsity tennis coach, and he spearheaded the Sunday ultimate Frisbee program.

Prior to his employment at Emma Willard, he worked as a science instructor at the Albany Academy for Girls. Mr. Kimberly has a B.A. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Princeton University and a M.S. in the Natural Sciences from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). After receiving his degree from RPI, he worked at the Institute for two years as an instructor and curriculum developer, using LEGO RoboLab to teach robotics to underprivileged youth.

Mr. Kimberly has served on the board of trustees at the Susan Odell Taylor School for Children in Troy, NY. He has also been a reader for the College Board’s Advanced Placement Chemistry Exam.

 Mr. Kimberly and his family attend Moorestown Monthly Meeting. He and his wife, Polly, have three sons who attend the MFS Lower and Middle Schools. They enjoy camping, hiking and canoeing in the Adirondacks.
