Meet the Director

Matt Glendinning
Upper School Director

Matt Glendinning was appointed MFS Upper School Director in 2004. He arrived from Germantown Friends School in Philadelphia where he taught ancient and medieval history, as well as Latin and archaeology for eight years. He also served as head of the History Department, Director of Student Activities, and coach of the boys and girls varsity soccer teams.

Mr. Glendinning previously taught Latin at Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, and Archaeology at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia. He has served as Dean of Students and as Program Director for the Cambridge Prep Experience, a summer program in Cambridge, England.

Mr. Glendinning has a Ph.D. in classical archaeology from the University of North Carolina, and a B.A. in the same field from Dartmouth College. He has lived abroad and worked at excavations in Spain, Greece and Turkey and led numerous school trips to Italy. His more recent professional training includes a master's degree in Educational Leadership from Arcadia University and a certificate in non-profit administration from the University of Pennsylvania.

Mr. Glendinning's awards and honors include a Fulbright Fellowship in Greece, the Edward E. Ford Fellowship in Educational Leadership from the National Association of Independent Schools, and research/publication grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the 1984 Foundation. He has published many articles and presented numerous papers on education, archaeology, and teaching history and archaeology. He is a grant-writer for the Philadelphia non-profit Cradles to Crayons, and serves on the Board of Directors of Singing City, a non-profit amateur choir in Philadelphia.

Mr. Glendinning is an avid soccer player and runner. He enjoys working on his old house in Haddon Heights, and spending time with his wife of 12 years, Katherine.
