Academics - Technology Computers are used throughout a student's tenure at Moorestown Friends School to enhance and broaden the education of Preschoolers through 12th-graders. Curriculum The goal of the computer curriculum is to integrate computer use with curriculum in other areas while developing students' technology skills and knowledge. We recognize the need for continuous change in the computer curriculum as change occurs in technology and in the role of technology in society. From preschool through fourth grade, students use computers in their classrooms to reinforce the skills that are important to building a strong foundation for their overall academic development. Computer classes in the lab begin in kindergarten and remain a requirement through ninth grade. Students focus on a particular area of computer use at each grade level. Among the skills taught are research, web page development, digital media, word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, database design, Internet safety and computer ethics. When possible, computer activities take advantage of opportunities to build on material presented in other courses, from language arts to health education. Computer use is especially significant in teaching geometry and music theory. Upper School students have the opportunity to take majors or minors in Computer Science. Major course offerings include AP Computer Science and Media Arts. Recent minor course offerings include Advanced Topics in Computer Science, Desktop Publishing, Advertising and Design, Anime, Fashion and Photoshop, Video Editing, Web Design, E-Business, Service Learning, and Video Conferencing. Moorestown Friends also has ongoing extracurricular computer activities for Lower School as well as Middle and Upper School students. Facilities Moorestown Friends School has over 350 computers and laptops throughout the school. Seven computer labs include three general use labs, two mathematics labs, two science labs and a MIDI Music lab. Three wireless laptop carts consist of 20 wireless laptops each. Interactive white board technology has been adopted throughout the school bringing the total to 25 boards with mounted Projectors. The library houses a word processing center for students to prepare and print written work. The library's online catalog is available on several search stations in the library as well as via the network computers throughout the school. Our Internet connections consist of a combination of cable and DSL with an overall capacity of download speeds up to 7.0 Mbps and the school network operates on a gigabyte backbone.
