The Arts - Drama

Disney's High School Musical, Fall 2007
The Trojan Women, Spring 2007

Second-graders perform "Goin' Buggy."

The Theater & Drama program prepares students for roles on stage, and in life, through classes and numerous performance opportunities.

Grade-level presentations begin in Lower School through such traditions as "Goin' Buggy," a 2nd grade musical about insects performed on stage, as well as the annual "I Have A Dream" assembly celebration of the life of Dr. Martin Luther King. During Intensive Learning each March, the 7th Grade puts on a musical – from start to finish – in one week during which regular classes are suspended. The Middle School Spring Concert is a condensed version of a Broadway musical.

All School Productions featuring Upper School students include a Fall Musical (which also includes Middle School students) and a Spring Drama, the student-directed Drama Club play and the Senior Play, a Moorestown Friends School tradition for 85 years. Upper School electives in drama include Introduction to Acting and Directing. A Theatre Arts honors course traces the evolution of theatre from its roots in history to modern performance theories.

As a living art form, theatre requires attention to detail and discipline. Moorestown Friends School teaches students these important skills.
