The Arts - Woodworking
The focus in fifth grade is on design technology – techniques of structure, support, measurement and assembling. Sixth-graders produce a box container and a small utilitarian object. Seventh grade students make a toy and a small utilitarian object, while eighth graders design and produce a small piece of furniture. The Upper School offers an Arts III elective that allows the student to explore designing to produce a major piece of furniture, as well as creating smaller pieces of complex visual art designs. These projects may range from bowl-turning to large tables.
