MFS Flu Preparedness Update

September 18, 2009

Dear Parent,

Moorestown Friends School continues to work closely with local and state health authorities to stay abreast of current flu monitoring and prevention guidelines. Since my message of September 4 some additional procedures have been implemented at MFS upon the advice of health authorities.  Please note the information provided below:

  • When you call your division office to report an absence please include the reason for the absence (fever, sore throat, etc.). Local health authorities are asking schools to track flu-like symptoms.
  • If your child is sent to the nurse with flu-like symptoms during the school day, the nurse will call you immediately. Please have a plan in place that provides for quick pickup of an ill child.
  • A letter with health department guidelines and instructions for responding to flu-like symptoms will be sent home with children who must leave school due to illness.
  • Please do not send a child who has had a fever back to school until he/she is fever-free for 24 hours (without fever-reducing medicine). The guidelines for very young children are more stringent and will be shared with our Preschool and Prekindergarten families.
  • The nurses are exploring, with the Burlington County Health Department, options for providing vaccinations for H1N1 for high-risk populations. Since children are a high-risk category, schools throughout the county are planning the best ways to make vaccinations accessible.

For more information, visit www.flu.gov, or call 1-800-CDC-INFO for the most current information about the flu. For more information about flu in our local community, visit the Burlington County Health Department Flu Pandemic Website or call 609-265-5548.

We will continue to provide flu preparedness updates to parents as needed.

Sincerely,

Larry Van Meter
Head of School
