Moorestown Friends School E-News - October 9, 2008

“Sign” Up To Promote Admissions Open Houses

Are you a proud Moorestown Friends family? Let your neighbors know! The Marketing and Communications office is asking for volunteers to post 2’ x 3’ signs on front lawns to promote upcoming Admissions Open Houses on October 26 and November 15. Peer schools like Germantown Friends and Abington Friends have successfully implemented a yard sign program in recent years. Office staff will arrange for you to receive your yard sign and will also arrange to collect them after November 15. To volunteer to display an Open House sign, please contact Mike Schlotterbeck, Director of Marketing and Communications: mschlotterbeck@mfriends.org or 856-914-4434.

Varsity Athletics Enjoying Successful Fall Season

It’s been a fun season for spectators on the fields, at the races, and on the tennis courts as the MFS Foxes have enjoyed success in all fall sports.

On Friday, the girls tennis team (12-5 overall, 2-2 Friends League) hosts Holy Cross in a first-round NJSIAA Non-Public B tournament matchup. The winner will travel to Ranney School on Tues., October 14. The South Jersey final will take place on Oct. 16.

The defending FSL championship field hockey team won their first six games before falling to Academy of the New Church yesterday. The squad is 6-1 overall, 3-1 in the FSL, with hopes for league and state playoff berths.

On the soccer field, the boys soccer team won their third FSL game yesterday, 4-2 over Abington Friends. The team is 7-4 overall and 3-3 in the FSL. They are one win away from clinching their first NJSIAA playoff berth since 2003. Junior Ben Lasserre is one of the leading scorers in all of South Jersey with 16 goals.

The girls soccer team is 4-5 overall, 1-4 in the FSL. They earned their first Friends League win on Friday with a 5-2 victory at Friends Select. The team has six games remaining before the NJSIAA state playoff cut date of October 24 when they must be at .500 or above.

The boys and girls cross country teams are approaching their invitational season. Both teams will run in the Burlington County Open, South Jersey Championships and Friends Schools League Championships in the coming weeks. The boys squad has a dual meet record of 3-4 overall, 1-3 in the FSL. The girls team stands at 4-3, 2-3 in the FSL.

Go Foxes!
