Mini Scholars:
Four- and Five-year-olds (must be four by September 30)

Young children are wired to explore and to learn through play and motion. Moorestown Friends School Mini-Scholars get to do just that. We invite your four or five year old child to join us this summer for a unique experience of learning, interacting with others, cooperating, communicating, and growing in resilience and resourcefulness.

Sample Daily Schedule – Mini Scholars

9-9:30 a.m.

Morning Drop-off and Activity Time
Children choose from a variety of activities that may include an art experience, cooperative games, sensory activities or table manipulatives. This time provides opportunity for children to greet each other and make a calm transition into the classroom. It also allows time for the teacher to speak individually with each child and their parent.

9:30-9:45 a.m.

Morning Meeting and Chinese Language Lesson
To build classroom community and prepare students for a successful school day, children come together for a Responsive Classroom based meeting. During this time, students greet each other warmly in both English and Chinese, engage in a sharing activity, and read a morning message composed by the teacher. Learning center activities are presented to help each child plan their exploration of morning choices.

10:45 a.m.

Center Exploration and Teacher Activity Time
The children initiate and actively engage in a variety of small group learning experiences in which they can represent what they are learning. These activities may be related to the Chinese or science lesson of the day or may be an extension of the group’s interest. Mid-morning snack also occurs during this time.

11:45 a.m.

Playground Time and Water Play
Climbing equipment, swings, slides, wading pools, sprinklers and the sandbox provide opportunities for developing gross motor skills and to have fun in the sun. Social skills and conflict resolution skills are put into practice daily with teacher guidance.

11:45 a.m. -
12:15 p.m.

Lunch provides a relaxing social time as well as the opportunity to practice table manners and self-help skills.

12:45 p.m.

Science Exploration
Children will explore the living and non-living world around them. Through the hands-on activities, students are guided to hypothesize, observe, experiment, form conclusions, and record their data.

12:45-1 p.m.

Closing Meeting
The highlights and events of the day are reviewed and a sneak-peak into the following day is shared. The children end their day with a song and a good-bye handshake for friends and teachers.
