STUDENTS WIN AWARDS IN SOIL CONSERVATION POSTER CONTEST
Moorestown Friends School students won five of the twelve prizes awarded in the recent Burlington County Soil Conservation District Poster Contest. Each year the New Jersey Association of Conservation Districts (NJACD) sponsors a conservation poster contest. The poster contest is designed to promote a greater awareness and broader understanding of the environment. The topic changes every year with the 2008 theme being “Water is Life.” First place winners in each category now advance to state competition. The New Jersey Grand Champion then enters a national competition. In the grades 10-12 division, MFS award winners were seniors Morgan Burgess (Moorestown) who placed second, and Anna Leh (Cherry Hill), who placed third. Freshman Erica Fenza (Moorestown) won first prize in the grades 7-9 division. Two sixth graders won awards in the grades 4-6 division. Taylor Johns (Moorestown) won first prize, and Emma Giordano (Moorestown) placed third. Prizes are: first place — $75, second place — $50, and third place — $25. Upper/Middle School science teachers Deborah Bruvik and Chuck Blatherwick coordinated all MFS entries.
