TWELVE STUDENTS INDUCTED INTO CUM LAUDE SOCIETY

Twelve Moorestown Friends School (MFS) students were inducted into the Cum Laude Society, a national honor society for academically challenging independent schools, at a ceremony at MFS on May 8.

The twelve inductees include seniors Ashley Edwards of Lumberton, Charles Hodgens (Port Republic), Samantha Kriger (Burlington), Rachel Mulligan (Westampton), Sarah Rosenbach (Mount Laurel), and Kevin Schlagle (Maple Shade).

Juniors selected for the honor are Aubrie Campbell (Moorestown), Sophia Demuynck (Mount Holly), Hannah Levy (Voorhees), Rebecca Salowe (Mount Laurel), Nina Samuel (Moorestown), and Hannah Spielberg (Westmont).

Named to the Cum Laude Society last year were current seniors Kira Adams (Willingboro), Emily Jones (Mount Holly), Shaina Karasin (Moorestown), Julie Martin (Riverton), Andrea Onorato (Voorhees), Richard Rinaldi (Shamong), and Eric Teitelbaum (Cinnaminson).

Students are selected for membership based on their cumulative record of academic excellence in all subject areas. No more than 20 percent of a school’s senior class may be selected, with no more than 10 percent chosen during their junior year.  Moorestown Friends School received its Cum Laude charter in 1962.

The students were honored at a May 8 dinner where they heard from keynote speaker Mark Bisbing, who graduated from MFS in 1974.  Bisbing has practiced law in Miami since 1982, specializing in the representation of inbound foreign individuals and entities. His law firm is Schulte and Bisbing.

When he was in the Upper School at MFS, Bisbing was a member of the Cum Laude Society, a National Merit commended scholar, a Student Council officer, yearbook editor, and a participant in the Model United Nations program, among other activities. As an alumnus, he has supported the school as a class representative, a member of the Board of Visitors, a reunion host and a member of the Legacy Society.
