MFS News May 28, 2008 MFS TEAM TAKES SECOND PLACE IN UNDERWATER ROBOTICS COMPETITION
A team of Moorestown Friends School (MFS) students took second place in the Vehicle Performance category of the Sea Perch competition at Drexel University on May 10. The Sea Perch program introduces pre-college students to underwater robotics. It is part of the Office of Naval Research's initiative on "Recruiting the Next Generation of Naval Architects," and teaches students how to build an underwater robot (called a Sea Perch), how to build a propulsion system, how to develop a controller, and how to investigate weight and buoyancy. The MFS team consisted of juniors Scott Goldstein, Derek Preston and Matt Sattel, and sophomores Edwin Barrera and Phil Dorsey. The team advisor was Upper School science teacher Tim Clarke.
