Moorestown Friends School students won seven of the nine prizes awarded in the recent Burlington County Soil Conservation District Poster Contest.
Each year the New Jersey Association of Conservation Districts (NJACD) sponsors a conservation poster contest. The poster contest is designed to promote a greater awareness and broader understanding of our environment. The topic changes every year with the 2007 theme being “Today is the Day to be a Part of Conservation’s Power.” First place winners in each category now advance to state competition. The New Jersey Grand Champion then enters a national competition.
In the grades 10-12 category MFS award winners were all seniors: Sarah Van Cleve, first prize; Michael Puleo, second prize; and Brittany Brennan third prize.
In the grades 7-9 category MFS award winners were both freshman: Ally Shaffer, second prize, and Gianya Breland third prize.
In the grades 4-6 category, sixth graders Logan Horn and Lauren Carney won second prize and third prize respectively.
Prizes are: first place—$75, second place—$50, and third place—$25.
Upper/Middle School science teacher Chuck Blatherwick coordinated all MFS entries.
