Three Israeli College Students To Visit MFS October 5

Moorestown Friends School students will get an up-close look at the recent Israel/Lebanon conflict on Thursday, October 5, courtesy of the Israel at Heart organization.

Three Israeli college students (including a soldier who participated in the recent Israel/Lebanon engagement) will visit with students from two 11th grade 20th Century World History classes (teachers: Judy van Tijn and Hope Scibal) between 11:30 a.m. and 12:55 p.m. in the school Auditorium. At 1:40 p.m., they will visit with students in the Model United Nations course (teacher: Frank Fisher).

The visitors will discuss how the conflict personally affected their lives and those of the Israeli people, especially in the northern part of the country.

Israel at Heart is a not-for-profit organization that promotes a better understanding of Israel and its people, bringing real stories and real faces to communities around the globe. The Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey is coordinating the student delegation’s visit.

"This is the second time Israel at Heart has paid a visit to the MFS campus and we are very thankful to Ronit Boyd (Director of the Israel Programs and Resource Center at the Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey) and the Jewish Federation for making this visit possible," said Associate Head of School and Academic Dean Barbara Caldwell.

"Our students are very prepared for the Israel at Heart students' visit," said MFS Upper School Community Service Coordinator and Social Studies teacher Judy van Tijn. "The conflict this summer has made this a very timely and relevant topic for our students and they are looking forward to hearing the Israeli students' perspective on the conflict."
