MOORESTOWN FRIENDS NAMES ATHLETIC DIRECTOR

MOORESTOWN – Head of School Laurence R. Van Meter has announced the appointment of Danielle Dayton, who had been serving as Interim Athletic Director, as Moorestown Friends School’s Athletic Director. In that role, she will oversee the athletic program for middle school through high school at the coed Quaker day school.

Dayton replaced Deb Surgi, who left last summer to accept another position.

Dayton, 34, an Audubon resident and Collingswood native, has been at MFS since September 2004.

She has a master’s in physical education teacher education and a bachelor’s of science in education, both from Ohio State University. While an undergraduate, she was a four-year varsity letter winner in field hockey. She currently ranks as the third highest goal scorer for career records at Ohio State.

Before coming to MFS, she served as a health and PE teacher and coach at Collingswood High School and as assistant athletic director at Columbus School For Girls in Columbus, Ohio, where she had previously been a PE and a health teacher. She also taught PE and coached at the Hockaday School in Dallas, Texas.

“She has done a terrific job and has handled the athletic program very capably,” said Van Meter.

Dayton plans to coach varsity field hockey in the fall. She also is the director for Premier Field Hockey Camp in Allentown, Pa., and has been a Division III assistant field hockey and lacrosse coach at Ohio Wesleyan University. At Ohio State, she was a student-assistant coach for field hockey.
