MFS SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING EXPO—FRIDAY, MARCH 9

Students at Moorestown Friends School will participate in the school’s ninth annual Science and Engineering Exposition (SEE) on Friday, March 9, in the school’s gymnasiums. 

Students in grades 5 – 12 will display science projects and posters, engage in competitions, and play games with a wide variety of science themes including: Water Pollution; Alternative Energy Homes; Genetic Disorders Slot Cars, Robotics & Rockets; History of Medicine; Biology; Anatomy and Physiology; Micronutrients; Ecology; Environmental Science; Bottle Rocketry; and Physics.

Paleontologist Randy Lyons will make three presentations in the auditorium about his excavations of fossils from the late Cretaceous period in the Badlands of western Canada.  Lyons has excavated fossils from dinosaurs, sharks, crocodiles, turtles, and other creatures.  The presentation will cover  topics such as how dinosaurs evolved, why they became extinct, how fossils are formed, the link between birds and dinosaurs, and how evolution shapes the natural world today.

Sixth and seventh grade students will view astronomy presentations throughout the day in a portable planetarium from Raritan Valley Community College in Somerville, NJ.  The planetarium is made of canvas, and inflates into a dome 12 feet high and 20 feet wide.  The stars and planets of the night sky are projected onto the inner surface.
