MFS Moorestown Friends School

Strategic Plan - Physical Plant Goals

The school's physical plant is highly functional, neat and well-cared for. There are, however, several problems related to traffic, parking, facilities, energy consumption, and deferred maintenance.

Plan Goal #11

Develop new and existing land and facilities to provide an aesthetically cohesive, environmentally sound, safe, and convenient campus that supports the mission of the school.

Plan Goal #12

Assure the long-term viability of the physical plant.

Rationale

Attending to issues of traffic, inadequate facilities, and planned and deferred maintenance will require significant time, energy, and money.   In addition, more space is likely to be required for facilities at the school, even if enrollment is capped at current capacity of about 720 students.   Consideration must be given to using existing space on our campus differently or finding nearby land for these functions.

Strategies

•  Develop a master plan that will address: traffic and parking issues, new and existing land, and new and existing buildings, while maintaining all grade levels on a single campus.

•  Develop standards for the following as part of the master plan: architecture; landscaping; fixtures, including lighting, signs, fences; special spaces; infrastructure integration, particularly technology; and energy efficiency using LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) or similar standards.

•  Address the list of serious deferred and periodic maintenance projects in a timely fashion to ensure safe facilities, prevent even costlier repairs as assets deteriorate from neglect, and achieve cost savings through advanced planning.
