Last weekend, six Lower School chess students participated in a chess tournament, run by The Knight School, at St. Francis of Assisi School in Springfield, PA. The participants included Noah Hasni ’28, Shea Henefer ’28, Joshua Rotter ’29, Karina Rotter ’27, Fareed Shah ’28, and David Will ’28.

The Knight School has partnered with MFS over the past year to run a Chess Club for Lower School students. Chess teacher “Coach Luke” has worked with each student to develop skills, strategy, confidence and their general understanding of the game. The tactics learned led Joshua Rotter and Fareed Shah to victory in the tournament. After many rounds of competition, Joshua won the first grade trophy and Fareed won the second grade trophy.

The MFS chess club will continue to run year-round for grades 1 – 5. The Knight School will run periodic regional Chess tournaments and invite children from schools all around South Jersey and Philly bringing them together for fun, healthy competition and learn from each other. Registration for the 2018-19 chess club will begin in August.
