Rufus Jones taught in the Philosophy Department of Haverford College for over forty years. He was one of the co-creators of the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC), a prolific author, a renowned and transformative educator, and an expert on mysticism. He was one of the major forces behind the healing of the rift between the Hicksite and Orthodox branches of American Quakerism.
