A native of France, Valerie Ives holds both a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in French literature from Washington University.

Before moving to the U.S., Valerie earned her B.A. and an M.A. in English from the Université de Poitiers in France.

During her professional career, she has worked as a senior instructor in French at the Alliance Française School in St. Louis, and served as an assistant professor of French at St. Louis University, Simmons College, and Fairmont State University.

In her most recent post, Valerie was a French lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania, a position from which she stepped away to pursue independent research on political cartoonists and women’s rights in North Africa.
