A group of Upper School students met on April 17 to work on this year’s Vision 2020 art installation. Led by Artist-in-Residence Brad Carney, the students learned about the process of building a mosaic and had the chance to cut their own glass pieces for the mural.

In order to achieve the best cut of glass possible, students drew outlines on tracing paper and then marked slabs of glass for cutting. They used tools such as crimpers, nippers, and cutting wheels to score and break glass for the mural. Students also discussed the art of “subtractive” mediums such as wood and glass, especially the ways in which these materials require advanced planning before incorporation.

Each piece of the final mural will be hand cut and placed into the design. Stay tuned for the final result!
