The Upper School Women’s Choir spent last weekend at a choral music festival called Girls Empowered Through Music (GETMusic!). They performed in the GETMusic! Festival concert on Saturday, October 18 at Tindley Temple United Methodist Church.

This two-day choral music experience celebrated young female choral singers in Grades 7 through 12 and hosted more than 150 vocalists. It was conducted by renowned choir director Lynnel Joy Jenkins. The Festival concert also featured the world premiere of “When I Am Woman,” composer Andrea Clearfield’s setting of Sonia Sanchez’s poem.

This was the MFS Women’s Choir’s first festival experience, and they worked hard in classes to prepare the challenging and compelling music. Participating students were Bria McKenzie, Andayah Sams, Imani Wingfield, Emma Foster, Molly Fischer, Katie Gregory, and Supti Roy.
