On December 13, all tenth grade students enjoyed World Language field trips that highlighted the culture of their language of study (French, Mandarin, or Spanish). Students from each language penned a summary of their experience, both in English and their language of study, to provide readers with a student’s perspective.

On December 13, the sophomore Spanish students took a trip to the Penn Museum of Philadelphia. While there we learned about the various facets of ancient Mesoamerican life and culture. The first part of the trip was a guided tour of the museum’s exhibit on the cultures and artifacts of ancient Mesoamerica. There were a variety of objects on display, including stone carvings, jade necklaces, and assorted household objects. Through these objects we were able to imagine the lives of the people of Mesoamerica. Following this experience, we were given a presentation on the different ways of preserving artifacts. This was accompanied by a workshop of these techniques with more common objects. We also had the opportunity to try some tasty Tapas such as queso manchego, serrano ham,  and chorizo with pan (bread).  Overall it was a very informative trip that allowed us to experience the daily lives of the people of Mesoamerica.
