MFS GirlsGoCyberStart Team Competes at Nationals

Oct 8, 2020

Last May, a team of four MFS students qualified for the national round of the GirlsGoCyberStart competition. Associated with the Cybersecurity Club, the team consisting of seniors Annabelle Crescenzo, Lauren Kam, Olivia Rutherford, and Emily Zeiberg competed throughout the spring in a series of rounds, all in a variety of different challenges, from digital forensics to ethical hacking. They met regularly during and after school to share tips and help each other complete more tasks, switching to virtual due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the middle of the second round. Qualifying for nationals included passing a significant threshold of points in the previous round; through hard work, Lauren Kam acquired the needed points to propel the team to the final level. They placed in the top 50% of teams who qualified for Nationals.

The Cybersecurity Club also allows all four team members, and more MFS students, to compete in the CyberPatriot competition hosted by the Air Force Association where they also have found great success, competing in both the Silver and Gold brackets.
