MFS Hosts Quaker Model UN Conference 3 (QMUNC 3)

Dec 3, 2020

The Quaker Model United Nations Conference 3 (QMUNC 3) took place November 20-22 at Moorestown Friends School. The concept of a Model United Nations conference based on the Quaker testimonies was the brainchild of Anna Goula ’18. When Kayla Patel ‘21 and Christine Chandran ‘21 decided to design and plan the third iteration, they had no way of knowing that a pandemic would change everything.

Change, it did. They created a virtual conference with international participants. They had schools from Lebanon and Costa Rica. They doubled the number of delegates and schools. Over 100 students spent three days at QMUNC Virtual International 2020! The students were so pleased that faculty members came to their opening ceremonies.

It was amazing to scroll through six Zoom pages of delegates, faculty members, guests, and parents who attended the event. Megan Schmidt, one of two Quaker UN Representatives, who leads the organization’s Peacebuilding Program, was the keynote speaker. Kayla and Christine gaveled us off to committees Friday night and the event took off.  It was an amazing weekend!
