Two Moorestown Friends School Middle School students have earned spots in the statewide MATHCOUNTS competition. The MFS Middle School MATHCOUNTS team placed second overall in the regional competition held on Saturday, February 1, at Ocean County College.

Seventh grader Jonathan D’Souza placed first overall in the competition, and his classmate Vineeth Veeramachaneni placed third. Both D’Souza and Veeramachaneni now qualilfy to compete in the state MATHCOUNTS competition on March 8 at Rutgers University. The team of D’Souza, Veeramachaneni, Andrew Landesman, and Ian Millstein received the Most Improved Team award and finished second in the overall team competition. The tournament consisted of 10 teams and 54 individuals from Ocean and Burlington counties.

The team was coached by MFS sophomore Josh Murdy (pictured here with Veeramachaneni, D’Souza, and Millstein), and the MATHCOUNTS faculty advisor is Middle School Math Teacher Kathi Bernard.
