MFS To Join South Jersey Interscholastic Swimming League

Mar 29, 2023

The following message was sent to the school community on March 29, 2023:

Good afternoon MFS community members,

I am pleased to announce that Moorestown Friends School has been accepted to join the South Jersey Interscholastic Swimming League (SJISL), beginning with the 2023-24 season. The Burlington County Scholastic League (BCSL), which MFS will join beginning in Winter 2023-24, does not sponsor swimming. However, a number of BCSL schools compete in the SJISL, which also is home to other non-BCSL South Jersey schools. We anticipate placement in a division with smaller schools like ours and a schedule of 6-7 league meets with a few additional non-league meets as in years past.

Moorestown Friends has proudly offered Upper School Boys’ and Girls’ Swimming teams for over two decades and the SJISL will be a great local home for our teams, providing our student-athletes with strong competition and plenty of opportunities to develop and improve.

Our commitment to supporting swimming teams at MFS is a significant one, requiring rental of indoor pool space and daily transportation of our student-athletes to practices and meets. I look forward to the continued growth of our boys’ and girls’ programs – programs which are able to support serious year-round swimmers, along with novice and intermediate swimmers who may be looking to stay fit or improve their skills in the water.

Varsity Swimming Coach Dwayne Colvin recently expressed his excitement about this new league: “I’m very excited for our swimmers to have the chance to compete locally in the SJISL. It’s great for MFS to be more involved in the South Jersey swimming scene. Many of our student-athletes swim for their local club in the summer, so they’ll have more opportunities to compete against friends and familiar faces.”

As always, please feel free to reach out to me with questions or to learn more about our Upper School swimming programs.

Sincerely,

Danielle Dayton
Director of Athletics
