Elizabeth Pei’s third grade class is currently studying farming. To supplement their unit, Middle and Upper School Science Teacher Andrea Robinson volunteered to bring two of her pet chickens to school. Andrea, who is also the advisor for the Community Garden, met third graders in the new Outdoor Classroom to introduce the birds and talk about their contributions to her family.

Next, Andrea helped students explore the Community Garden, located along the path to Hartman Hall. Third graders had the opportunity to pick herbs and sample their tastes and smells. Finally, the class reflected on the school’s gardening efforts and the ways in which campus life compares to farm life.
