Head of School Julia de la Torre Awarded Fellowship to Attend Klingenstein Heads of School Program

Jan 9, 2024

Head of School Julia de la Torre is heading to New York City later in January to participate in the Klingenstein Center Heads of Schools Program at Columbia University Teachers College. She will join a cohort of independent and international school heads for the fully-funded, two-week fellowship from January 21 – February 3.

“On behalf of the School Committee, I would like to congratulate Julia on being selected for this prestigious fellowship,” said School Committee Clerk Ivy Brown ’89. “This is a wonderful professional development opportunity and will benefit Julia and the school as she actively takes part in two weeks of collaboration, reflection, and study of solutions-focused academic research.”

This select group of 17 school leaders will discuss current educational issues, dive into educational philosophy and ethics, immerse in reflective-practice, and much more. They will also engage in design thinking and case study work with Klingenstein master’s degree students. During the fellowship Julia and her cohort will also visit independent schools in New York City to observe a remarkable range of programs and ideas.

This will be Julia’s second experience in a Klingenstein Center program. She was selected for a fellowship to participate in the Center’s Summer Institute for Early-Career Teachers while she was a French teacher at Kent Denver School in Colorado in 2001.
