Five Students Capture Garden State Press Association Awards

Rebecca Benjamin ’21 and Sam Bitman ’21

Five members of WordsWorth were award winners in the 2019-20 Garden State Press Association Awards, announced earlier this year.

The team of Sam Bitman ’21, Rebecca Benjamin ’21, Shelby Deibler ’20, Esha Nitoor ’20, & Aaron Klein ’20 won Second Place in the Multimedia Package — Features category for their story “A Look Back At MFS Mock Primary Election.”

Rebecca Benjamin won Second Place in the “Special Coverage: Pandemic Opinion” category for her story When Will I Be Able to Return My Library Books?: The Uncertainty of COVID-19.”

She also captured Honorable Mention in the Special Coverage: Pandemic Arts & Lifestyle category for “And the Crowd Goes Home: The First Major League Sports Event Without Fans” and in the Sports Writing category for “Home Sweet Home: MFS Girls’ Swim Team Hosts First Home Meet of the Season During Second Round of State Playoffs.” 

Sam Bitman won Third Place in Sports Writing for his article “Foxes Capture Third Sectional Title in Five Years.” he also won Honorable Mention in the Multimedia Package — Features category for “A Look Back At: Thanksgiving Happening 

Rebecca and Sam also won Honorable Mention in Sports Writing for their story “MFS Sinks the Ship to Move on to Friends League Championship.”
