Moorestown Friends welcomes Julie Lyons as the Upper School Counselor. In addition to her work at MFS, she will also teach as an adjunct professor at Camden County College. Julie grew up in Bucks County and is returning to the area after serving as a middle and elementary school counselor for many years in a variety of settings, most recently at Manhattan Beach Middle School in Manhattan Beach, CA.

Julie holds a B.S. in psychology from Loyola University in Chicago, and it was during her undergraduate years that she decided to merge her two interests of education and psychology. Immediately following her undergraduate work, she earned a master’s degree in educational psychology and school counseling from the University of San Francisco. After working with students individually and in groups as a school counselor, Julie gained her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology.

“My work provides me with the unique opportunity to partake in students’ lives while here at MFS and watch them develop as unique individuals,” said Julie. “I was particularly drawn to the sense of community at MFS as a place to continue my career, and I hope to assist students in having a positive experience at school.”

Julie currently lives in Haddon Township, NJ and she likes to spend time outdoors with her husband and three daughters. As a family, they all really love playing in their backyard.
