Avani Verma ’24 and the Seva Project Host Drive To Collect Gently Used Sports Equipment

Feb 8, 2022

Avani Verma ’24, through her non-profit organization, the Seva Project (Instagram / Facebook), is conducting a drive at MFS to collect new and gently used sports equipment to donate to young aspiring athletes. She is working in partnership with the Upper School Service Committee. “Seva” means selfless service in Sanskrit. Bins are available in Stokes Hall Lobby and in the Field House Commons for people to drop off donations through February 17.

Avani started the non-profit organization last year and has conducted previous drives at MFS and through her former soccer club Players Development Academy. Once the drives are complete Avani, with help from her brothers Vikram ’25 and Ayaan ’29, cleans the equipment to prepare to donate to local organizations. The Seva Project has donated items to Urban Promise, the Kroc Center in Camden, and Spectrum Sports.

“My brothers and I play several sports and a lot of our equipment would just sit in our garage and not get used once we grew out of it,” said Avani. “I thought this was a way that we could help out people in communities that need it and the drives have had a great response.”

Thus far, the Seva Project has donated over 200 items. Questions regarding the gently used sports equipment drive can be sent via email to the Seva Project at: thesevaproject9@gmail.com.
