First Grade Class Creates Artist-Inspired Pumpkin Art

Nov 9, 2023

Teri Kaiser’s first grade class channeled inspiration from artist Yayoi Kusama into a pumpkin drawing and painting project this fall. Kusama, a Japanese artist, is well-known for her use of color, polka-dot patterns, and love of pumpkins. After learning about her and her body of work, the students studied real pumpkins as they drew their own. Each pumpkin was then painted in polka dots with a variety of colors and placed on a hand-drawn patterned background. The students enjoyed painting the real pumpkins in polka dots after their creations were complete.
